We are the temples, still standing / in Devotion to the Ancestors

we are the temples, still standing

that they tried to hide under their churches

built by hands that prayed to their god

to see us dead

we are being excavated by

ancient ceremonies

held thousands of years ago

for this day we would wake

to fight this deep darkness

old, old songs now echo

from deep within our most protected memories

and it is now

rattling the dirt off the stones

revealing what has been hidden

everything that’s been covered up

will be remembered, they tell me

and it starts with ripping out

the oaths we took to forget the true story

the one they don’t tell you about

when they try and put you to sleep

so young

just before your blood sparks to life

there is no force greater than what lives

in our bones

than the spirits that weave

the threads of time

than the scrolls which live on eternally

hidden in plain sight

we are the temples, still standing
